AASU Academic Renewal for Reentry Students

Academic Renewal provides an opportunity for returning students to eliminate their old grade-point average (from five years ago or longer) while retaining credit for courses passed with a grade of C or better.

Students who enroll at Armstrong Atlantic State University after an absence from college (any institute of higher learning) of at least five calendar years may be eligible for Academic Renewal—a policy whereby academic credit for previously completed course work is retained only for courses in which a grade of at least C or S was earned. Retained grades are not calculated in the Academic Renewal GPA. Once approved, the Academic Renewal GPA will be used to determine academic standing and eligibility for graduation. The Academic Renewal GPA will not be used to determine honors at graduation. It can not be used to determine eligibility for scholarships, financial aid, or V.A. benefits.

To qualify for Academic Renewal, a student

  1. Must not have been enrolled in college credit courses at any college or university for at least five years.
  2. Must be an undergraduate student who has not been awarded an associate or bachelor’s degree.
  3. Must request Academic Renewal within one calendar year of re-enrollment.

To be considered for Academic Renewal, contact Dr. Barbara Tanenbaum in the Office of the Dean of the College of Health Professions to schedule an appointment.

Please review the Academic Renewal Application located at

http://success.armstrong.edu/docs/academicrenewalapplication.pdf.

NOTE: Only one opportunity of Academic Renewal is allowed; therefore, the student must be certain about the decision before submitting the application.
