Core Value 1- The faculty are dedicated to excellence in teaching using a student centered approach.

   

Goal 1.1

Improve traditional and non-traditional methods of teaching by utilizing creative instructional methodology to enhance learning and support student learning.

Define and clarify student centered learning.

   

Strategy 1.1.1.

Define best teaching-learning practice model(s) for faculty use.

Core Value 2- Faculty participate in scholarly activities as a foundation for providing improvements in clinical practice, the advancement of professional knowledge and the improvement of instruction and learning.

   

Goal 2.1

Develop an organizational plan to facilitate ongoing faculty development, specifically in the areas of clinical practice, research and presentations.

Assist faculty with personal scholarship goals.

Prioritize departmental needs as related to areas of scholarship.

   

Strategy 2.1.1.

Define scholarship utilizing the Boyer model to include: research, applied clinical practice, grant writing, publications and presentations.

Strategy 2.1.2.

Determine departmental support needs for research software.

Strategy 2.1.3.

Develop scholarship abilities of students through mentoring and tutoring.

Active departmental involvement with the Cancer Initiative.

   

Goal 2.2

Establish a balanced plan of adjusted workloads for teaching and scholarship to meet individual and departmental goals.

   

Strategy 2.2.1.

Define a workload policy for the Department of Nursing which includes, but is not limited to: classroom enrollment, GSAMS, on-line, WebCT and other forms of distributive learning, classroom and clinical hours.

Strategy 2.2.2.

Benchmark workload with other AASU Departments and other nursing programs.

   

Goal 2.3

Establish a position of Director of Nursing Research and Evaluation.

   

Goal 2.4

Seek and procure grant funds.

   

Strategy 2.4.1.

Provide faculty with grant-writing workshops to develop expertise.

Strategy 2.4.2.

Develop faculty teams with similar areas of interest, expertise and mentoring for grant writing.

Partner with community agencies.

Core Value 3-The College of Health Professions values active communication with the service areas and the professional communities. This includes communication not only for understanding the needs of the service area and the professional communities but also for publicizing educational opportunities available at AASU. Coupled with this is a commitment of the faculty to distinction in community/professional service as well as responsiveness to the needs of the service area and professional community.

   

Goal 3.1

Design and implement a nurse managed center to support the health of the community of interest and student clinical placement needs.

   

Strategy 3.1.1.

Provide active leadership in the establishment of a Student Health Center for AASU students and faculty.

Strategy 3.1.2.

Explore student health facilities in other university settings to determine service and payment structure.

Strategy 3.1.3.

Utilize an interdisciplinary approach to the management of the center to expand learning opportunities for all health professions.

Strategy 3.1.4.

Develop opportunities for clinical instruction within the nurse managed center.

   

Goal 3.2

Develop a marketing plan for all programs and tracks within the Department of Nursing.

   

Strategy 3.2.1

Coordinate the nursing marketing plan with other AASU recruiting activities and personnel.

Strategy 3.2.2.

Establish an alumni data base.

Strategy 3.2.3.

Develop marketing approach to associate degree program graduates.

   

Goal 3.3

Develop an active international affiliation of nursing programs.

   

Goal 3.3.A.

Participate in existing programs for international experiences for students and faculty.

   

Goal 3.3.B.

Design an international educational exchange program for selected students in conjunction with the leadership clinical experience.

   

Strategy 3.3.1.

Investigate alternative funding for international study.

Strategy 3.3.2.

Explore international elective.

   

Goal 3.4

Strengthen the organizational culture of the Department of Nursing.

   

Goal 3.4.A.

Vitalize collegial relationships among faculty, staff and students, and alumni of the Department of Nursing.

   

Strategy 3.4.1.

Establish regular opportunities for faculty-student exchange and discussion, such as brown-bag lunches and presentation.

Strategy 3.4.2.

Effectively market AASU Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Research Day to area agency nurses.

Strategy 3.4.3.

Establish a means of annual alumni recognition.

Strategy 3.4.4.

Explore collaboration between the Department of Nursing and the district Georgia Nurses’ Association

   

Goal 3.4.B.

Identification and recognition, internally to the university and externally in the community, of the nursing faculty as an effective collegial team.

   

Goal 3.5.

Develop a recognized continuing education program with scheduled offerings which meet the needs of the community and region.

Develop an educational needs assessment of the community and region.

Collaborate with health care agencies for educational programs.

Collaborate with the AASU Continuing Education Department for educational programs.
